The Boston Celtics went through a fourth quarter collapsed in eventually falling to the Brooklyn Nets 129-120 in overtime Tuesday night at TD Garden.

Tuesday night at TD Garden is exactly why any team in the NBA can’t be taken for granted as the Boston Celtics blow an 18-point fourth quarter lead to fall to the Brooklyn Nets 129-120 in overtime.

With NBA Player of the Month Jayson Tatum out due to illness, the Celtics did get a jolt with the return of All-Star guard Kemba Walker.

As scripted, the Celtics did have control of the game for the majority of the game but faltered when it was time to really put their foot on the pedal.

With no Kyrie Irving, the Nets showed fight in the final frame and caught the Celtics basically sleep walking as they scored 51 points in that fourth quarter to erase the 18-point lead with the Celtics giving up the final five points to tie the game in the final 10 seconds.

If blowing such a big lead wasn’t bad enough, the Celtics watched starters Gordon Hayward and Jaylen Brown exit the game with injuries, which put the team at a great disadvantage entering overtime with Daniel Theis the only starter on the floor.

Already without Brown and Hayward, Walker reached his minutes limitation and Marcus Smart fouled out of the game opening the door for the Brooklyn Nets to cruise in overtime, outscoring the Celtics 11-2.

Caris LeVert torched the Celtics for 51 points on 17-of-26 shooting, while Jaylen Brown led the Celtics with 22 points.  Walker added 21 points in his return and Robert Williams added 10 points off the bench in his return to action.

In all, a disappointing ending to the game, but the bigger concerns are the injuries that continue to plague the Boston Celtics.

Here are three takeaways from the deflating defeat at TD Garden on Tuesday night.
