With the draft inching closer here is mock draft 2.0. Let’s see what the New England Patriots and Bill Belichick will do.

The New England Patriots still as of this writing have 12 selections entering the draft this week.

As previously noted, as a New England Patriots fan, my interest in the draft revolves solely around the Patriots activities. What other teams may or may not have done is only of concern if it may impact the Patriots draft of the upcoming season.

As a preface, I will note that these selections are predicated on a very specific premise that may, or more likely may not eventuate. It’s based on the thought that after 20 years with a relatively immobile but monstrously talented quarterback around whom they built a dynasty, that era is history.

It presupposes that with his departure, the Patriots will determine that trying to replace the greatest of all time with another quarterback is futile. It assumes that the Patriots will shock the NFL world and proceed to institute a new offense based on read-option, mobility, gadgetry, versatility and above all, stealth.

This wish list adds players to that new offense who are especially equipped to fulfill this mission and are geared for the new NFL. The goal, to overwhelm the NFL once again.

Without a doubt this is presumptuous. It’s totally geared to drafting offensive skill players in the first four rounds. No one knows what the New England Patriots will ever do in the draft or in any other facet of their operations.

And that’s probably a good thing. Yet, if they decide on this new direction, these are the picks that I feel make sense on offense.
