Boston Bruins can begin practicing soon as NHL enters phase 2
By Sam Minton
It might be under strict guidelines, but the Boston Bruins can begin practicing again which means we are closer to playoff hockey being played.
It seems that slowly but surely life is returning to normal. For a lot of people that means getting to watch their favorite sports team. Boston Bruins fans will be excited about the latest news to come from the NHL.
The NHL has entered phase 2 of their return to play plan. Players will be able to return to practice facilities and skate to prepare for the restart of the season.
Still players need to be safe. The NHL has released strict guidelines that players must follow.
Some of the rules include no more than 6 skaters being on the ice at the same time and no physical contact. Also coaches will not be allowed on the ice.
The key factor for the NHL returning to play is testing. You can’t have a bunch of players test positive and risk not handing out the Stanley Cup and more importantly people’s health.
Players will be tested 48 hours before practice and then twice weekly after that. Also temperature checks will occur every day.
The fact that they are able to test this much makes you feel good about the NHL returning but the fact that there will be non-contact on the ice shows that we still have a ways to go.
There is also some good news regarding foreign players. To sum up the exemption made by Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Chad Wolf, foreign players have the green light to return to the United States and prepare for their season.
So there definitely has been some good news in regard to the NHL but there is some work to be done. We are reaching a point where sports are almost back and I can’t wait for that day to arrive.
