Second, Joe Thuney is the New England Patriots BEST offensive lineman.

Following that argument, just how good is Joe Thuney, the subject of the rumor? Let’s make no mistake about it, Joe Thuney is the New England Patriots top offensive lineman.

Does it make great sense to trade that type of asset before the season with little time to find a replacement through the draft, etc.? The answer seems obvious. No, it doesn’t.

As New England’s best offensive lineman, Thuney’s loss would leave a gaping hole at right guard on the Patriots’ offensive line. The interior of New England’s offensive line is one of the strongest position groups in the team. Second only to the defensive secondary.

In addition, the line as currently constituted is one of the league’s best. And with almost no on-field preparation time prior to camp for anyone, this type of trade is a risky proposition, at best.

So to trade Thuney anytime, but especially as this unique season approaches, doesn’t seem to make much sense.
