Why Everson Griffen is a perfect fit for the New England Patriots.

If not Jadeveon Clowney, then perhaps Bill Belichick can work a contract friendly deal with veteran defensive end Everson Griffen.

Adding the 32-year-old veteran to the defensive line rotation would be beneficial for a New England Patriots front seven depending on young players like Chase Winovich, Deatrich Wise, the oft-injured Derek Rivers and rookie edge rusher Anfernee Jennings to make major contributions in 2020.

Similar to players like Chris Long, Belichick could use Griffen in pass rush situations where the four-time Pro Bowler continues to be a presence.  He logged eight sacks in 2019, but his off-the-field issues in 2018 may be why teams are shying away from the veteran defensive end.

We all know one coach who doesn’t shy away from talented players with attitude issues is one Bill Belichick.

But is there interest?

Furthermore, would Everson Griffen have interest in playing for the New England Patriots on a cheaper prove-it type deal?

Well, he did call the Patriots the model for team building and gave praise to Bill Belichick as a head coach.  Similar to Cam Newton on the offensive end, Griffen may be out with something to prove.  Teaming with Belichick for lesser money could just be worth it.
