Boston Celtics: 5 takeaways from disappointing defeat to Bucks
By Sam Minton
The refs were so awful
It can not be overstated. The officiating in this game was awful all around. The NBA should be ashamed of themselves.
There were so many bad calls. It seemed like the refs had an active vendetta against Daniel Theis and Jaylen Brown. They racked up fouls at a crazy rate.
Then there was what happened at the end of the game. The league basically showed their bias towards their star players.
Theis set a screen and Giannis ran into him and hit him in the groin. The whistle was blown so of course there had to be a foul right? While that isn’t the case. Somehow the refs didn’t call a foul and the Bucks didn’t have to worry about Giannis fouling out.
But that is just the tip of the iceberg. Marcus Smart set himself up for a charge and appeared to get Giannis to foul out after he ran into Smart.
Of course the call went to video review and it was ruled to not be a charge. It was absurd. Smart was clearly outside the restricted area and it’s stunning that Antetokounmpo wasn’t out of the game.
The Celtics will move on and hope to get their first win when they play again on Sunday.
