The Boston Red Sox got back in the win column with a 5-0 shutout victory over the Tampa Bay Rays Wednesday night.  Here are three players who shined.

Just when things were getting really dimmed for the 2020 version of the Boston Red Sox, they go and win a game like the one on Wednesday night.

With strong starting pitching from veteran starter Martin Perez (5 innings of shutout pitching), solid bullpen pitching and a couple of timely homers, highlighted by a two-run shot in the second inning off the bat of newcomer Alex Verdugo, the Sox 5-0 shutout victory over the Rays at Tropicana Field was very reminiscent of that 2018 World Series winning squad that seemed to always find ways to win in different ways.

If you are a Red Sox fan, this team is not that 2018 team by far, but if they adapt that same mentality of never giving up and believing in one another, perhaps 2020 can at least be a competitive season.

Boston Red Sox can still salvage the 2020 MLB season

In snapping a four-game losing streak, the Boston Red Sox took a leap back in time in hopes of finding some way to salvage a 60-game season where they are very close to falling out of the race already.

Yes, it has been that dismal for the Sox without Mookie Betts, Chris Sale, Eduardo Rodriguez, David Price and the list goes on.

A 4-8 start, a starting rotation that has not established any consistency beyond Nathan Eovaldi and an offense that has been missing consistent punch.  Sometimes in baseball, as we know, it just takes a clutch hit, a strong pitching performance from an unexpected source or even a couple of timely home runs to get a team rolling.

Well, that happened Wednesday night.  But, can it continue?

Let’s check out the three players who came up big for the Boston Red Sox in their 5-0 shutout victory against the Tampa Bay Rays and how they may have ignited some energy into the season.
