Can Boston Celtics big man Robert Williams can be a factor in the middle?

The biggest takeaway from Wednesday night’s 149-115 victory over the Brooklyn Nets was the play of Boston Celtics 2018 first-round pick Robert Williams.

With a career-high 18 points, the high-flying, rim-protecting big man made the most of his opportunity while playing 19 minutes in the game.  With five rebounds and three blocked shots to go along with his best shooting night of his career, Williams has not only earned confidence, he should also earn some playing time.

With most of the big man minutes taken by Daniel Theis and Enes Kanter, Robert Williams gave a glimpse of how impactful he can be on both sides of the ball when he is given the time.

With his health as the primary factor holding him back in the 2020 NBA season, the second-year man now finally has a chance to showcase his energy and skillset on the court.  Can he continue to prove he deserves playing time against a team like the Toronto Raptors?

That certainly will be something to watch in Friday night’s game as well as how the trio of bigs perform against Marc Gasol, Pascal Siakam and Serge Ibaka.  In playing against bigger teams, it is the athleticism of Robert Williams that could help the Boston Celtics defend the rim better.
