Cam Newton shouldn’t have to take over the game

Make no mistake, there will be certainly be occasions this season where the New England Patriots are going need SuperCam to emerge if the team is going to win. This should not be one of those games.

The Miami Dolphins went 5-11 last season, and while they got better on paper they are not a team that is being picked to make the playoffs. If the Patriots need a herculean effort out of Cam Newton just to win this game, that is probably a bad sign.

That’s not to say that he doesn’t need to perform well. If Newton can just manage the game, make the routine throws and complete a high percentage of his passes, that should be enough to get it done.

In any case, it’s going to be exciting to see Cam take the field in meaningful action for the first time in a Patriots uniform. Win or lose, there will be a lot to take away from this game.
