New England Patriots linebacker Chase Winovich will show his edge

With the departures of Jamie Collins, Kyle Van Noy and the opt out of Dont’a Hightower, the most important player in the New England Patriots front seven will be second-year edge rusher Chase Winovich.

Coming off a solid rookie season, Winovich will make a big year-two jump.

He basically has to given the youth and inexperience in that front seven, particularly at the linebacker position.

There will be players like veteran linebacker John Simon taking some of the pressure off Winovich, but ultimately the Patriots will put the Michigan product in more situations to make plays and build off the 5.5 sacks he recorded as a rookie.

With that high motor, Chase Winovich will be a factor against Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick because he never gives up on a play.  The scrambling ability of Fitzpatrick will lead to two sacks by Winovich.

Not such a bold prediction against a Dolphins offensive line with something to prove, but Winovich’s leadership on the field will shine.  He will be a disruptive force in this game, which will inspire rookie defensive players like Josh Uche and Anfernee Jennings into making a play or two in the game as well.

While no one expects Chase Winovich to completely fill the void of Dont’a Hightower, he will shine in his increased role.  More snaps, more opportunities to make things happen in that defensive front seven.
