New England Patriots finally unleash Devin Asiasi

Through the first two weeks of the 2020 NFL season, the New England Patriots have yet to complete a pass to one of their rookie tight ends.

Virginia Tech product Dalton Keene has been inactive through the first two weeks, but Devin Asiasi has gotten snaps, but has yet to have a pass thrown his way.

In fact, it has been third-year tight end Ryan Izzo who has gotten the targets at the tight end position.  That changes in this Week 3 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders as Cam Newton will start to utilize his tight ends a bit more the same way he did when he was throwing passes down in Carolina to Greg Olsen.

The tight end most like Olsen is Asiasi.  Not only is he big, but he has sneaky speed and could be a nice target on seam routes.  If Keene makes his NFL debut, the Patriots could go to a two tight end set featuring pass-catching tight ends for the first time this season.

Ryan Izzo has had some catches, but he’s not the talent that both Keene and Asiasi are.  I predict the UCLA product will have some targets in this game and spark some excitement out of the tight end position.

Bold prediction: Devin Asiasi has 3 catches for 50 yards.
