Boston College Eagles: 3 takeaways from close loss to UNC
A fired up defense
The bend-but-don’t-break philosophy for the Boston College Eagles defense has mostly served them well early in the 2020 season.
Against the Tar Heels, it was more of the same, coupled with a new level of intensity. This fire helped hold North Carolina’s offense to only three second-half points.
The fire did almost burn them in the third quarter, where Boston College had back-to-back unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. They buckled down and were able to hold the Tar Heels to three points.
Max Richardson again delivered another outstanding performance, totaling 13 tackles.
The defense also forced another turnover, an interception by Brandon Sebastian.
Sebastian tracked down the ball after Jahmin Muse popped the ball loose on a blitz in the second quarter.
Big chunks of yardage were given up throughout the day and limiting these plays are a must going forward. Too many times the Eagles allowed plays of 15 or more yards. And while they held strong most of the day, they were also aided by a few key Tar Heel penalties.
Still, has they continue to work in new faces and get acclimated with the system, the Boston College is a huge reason they were close to knocking off North Carolina to begin with.
