New England Patriots trade targets: Ryan Kerrigan intriguing on the edge

There has been a lot of trade buzz surrounding veteran pass rusher Ryan Kerrigan and Bill Belichick should be in the mix to add this impact player to the New England Patriots edge rush rotation.

With the Washington Football Team looking to build something, along with a nickname, head coach Ron Rivera will not be shy trading a popular veteran like Kerrigan if he gets some youth or high draft picks in return.

The Patriots do have some cap space and draft capital to work with, but will Bill Belichick see Ryan Kerrigan as the player who can come in and solidify the defensive line.

With 92 career sacks, the 32-year-old pass rusher can get to the quarterback and will likely have the type of role Chris Long has during his lone season in New England.

So, adding Kerrigan to a rotation of edge rushers that include Chase Winovich, Deatrich Wise and Derek Rivers would definitely help Belichick’s defense get pressure on the quarterback, but teams like the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks may be more desperate to acquire Kerrigan and perhaps give up something more than the New England Patriots will be willing to.

In theory, it’s not impossible, but perhaps a reach for Bill Belichick to not stick with what he already has on the edge.
