New England Patriots X-factors: Time to get the ball to Devin Asiasi.

It’s time for Cam Newton to find his Greg Olsen in New England and it could be third-round pick Devin Asiasi.

Although he has yet to be targeted in a game, the UCLA product has been open during games.  Newton just needs to trust him to look his way to see what the big tight end can do catching the ball.

With Ryan Izzo getting all of the tight end action through the first five weeks of the season and Dalton Keene yet to make his NFL debut, it’s time to start building Asiasi’s confidence, which is something Cam Newton is focused on doing.

"“Acai Bowl!  He’s a young player that’s getting it, and hopefully we get an opportunity; or you guys, or everybody sees his growth and maturation over these last couple days and weeks, and he gets involved in the game-plan,” Newton told reporters this week, via USA Today.  “I even told him, just like I tell all the receivers and skill-position players – let’s not get into that habit of thinking you only can be productive because of how many catches you get.  I think that’s the immature way of thinking.  Production comes when you’re asked to do something, how do you fare up against what your assignment was.”"

With the NFL Trade Deadline approaching the New England Patriots very need to see what they have in their young tight ends before making any kind of deal. So, perhaps this is the week Devin Asiasi gets some targets thrown his way.

Cam Newton certainly has “faith” in him, so let’s see how it plays out on the field on Sunday.  Any production out of the tight end position, especially if it is Asiasi will be a good sign for the offense against the San Francisco 49ers defense.
