New England Patriots X-factors: Cam Newton making no excuses.

Of course, it all starts with Cam Newton.

The New England Patriots quarterback struggled big time against the Denver Broncos after not playing in a game for 11 days or even practicing.

Still, Newton found a way to be the team’s best offensive playmaker in that 18-12 loss.  He knows, the team knows, they have to be better in execution and it has to be done with Cam’s legs, his arm and his decision making.

As he believes the Patriots’ offense has enough to compete with anybody in the league, he has to start getting them all involved.  Whether it is Julian Edelman, N’Keal Harry, Damiere Byrd, Ryan Izzo, Devin Asiasi or his collection of running backs, Cam Newton has to get the ball in their hands in situations where they can make plays.

Next. New England Patriots: Bill Belichick needs his own George Kittle. dark

That is why he is the biggest offensive X-factor in this game against the San Francisco 49ers.  If he limits the turnovers and get the ball out of his hand quicker, the Patriots’ offense will have some success.  If he struggles like he did against the Broncos, it could be another long day for a team that can’t afford to fall to 2-4.

In other words, this is a statement game and moment for Cam Newton in a New England Patriots uniform. If he is playing for the next contract, whether from Bill Belichick or some other team, it all starts Week 7 against Jimmy Garoppolo and the 49ers.
