Trade Joe Thuney to an offensive line needy team

Teams are always looking for offensive line help, and the New England Patriots have pretty good depth in that category.

With rookie Michael Onwenu having a standout season, it opens the door for the Patriots to trade Joe Thuney.

Thuney was franchise tagged by the Patriots in the offseason, but it doesn’t appear that any progress has been made towards a long term deal. Given that he is going to command a lucrative contract, it’s very likely this will be his final season in New England.

Thuney has been a key part of the Patriots offense since he was drafted in 2016. His versatility has proven to be extremely valuable and he has blossomed into one of the league’s best interior offensive lineman.

That being said, given the uncertainty of his contract situation it’s uncertain what type of value the Patriots would get return for him. Given the importance of good offensive line play, the Patriots could likely net a second or third round pick depending on the team they are trading with.

Either way, it’s not likely that Joe Thuney stays in New England beyond 2020. With Michael Onwenu looking like a suitable replacement, the New England Patriots should see what they can get in a trade involving Thuney.
