Damien Harris has to take the spotlight

The New England Patriots dodged a major bullet last Monday night when Damien Harris suffered a chest injury late in the game against the New York Jets.

Prior to the injury, Harris was rushing the ball for 5.1 yards a carry and was well on his way to another 100-yard rushing performance.  Back on the practice field this week, it appears Harris will be ready for Sunday night’s matchup against the Baltimore Ravens and says he is mentally and physically ready to meet the challenge.

He will have to be.  The entire running game will have to be as they present possibly the best chance to slow Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens offense, especially if the offense is able to get out to a quick lead.

The Ravens are not a great team when they are playing from behind, so a quick lead and shortening the game with their own rushing attack is one of the keys to winning this football game.

While Rex Burkhead and James White will have their roles, Damien Harris will have to be a factor.  As a downhill runner who finds separation once he gets into the second level, the Alabama product has the ability to create his own big run plays.

As long as he is not limited by the chest injury, watch for Harris to be a major factor on offense both rushing the ball and perhaps some screen plays set up to utilize his ability to break tackles and create separation once he is in the open field.
