The Boston Celtics bigs are vital to team’s success

Daniel Theis: The German big man was the starting center for the Boston Celtics last season.

To begin the season, he was in a competitive fight for the position against now Portland Trailblazers C Enes Kanter.

Theis quickly ran away with it as he proved to be a successful rebounder and forceful screener for his teammates. It will be the same type of fight this year as the Celtics inked big man Tristan Thompson during the offseason.

Will Theis keep his starting spot?

That will definitely be his wish. He has a slight edge as Thompson may miss time due to a Hamstring issue.

  • Daniel Theis will need to prove he is the go-to Center to start the season if he wants to keep his starting slot.

Tristan Thompson:  Thompson is much like Theis.

He is a strong rebounder and creator for mismatches while on the court. Thompson has the edge as a more defensive minded Center as he has the ability to switch on more of a variety of players.

The Boston Celtics are gaining a great player in Thompson with a tenure of experience in the playoffs. In his las two seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers he averaged a double-double in points and rebounds.

Thompson will  miss some time at the beginning of the season due to a hamstring issue. He needs to fully heal his hamstring and get on the court as soon as he can; therefore, giving him to have a chance at taking over the role as starting center.

Robert Williams III:  The young big man will be entering his 3rd season in the NBA. He has been developed and shaped into a great role player for Brad Stevens and the Boston Celtics.

The defensive minded big man will be looking to increase his efficiency on the court this season. He has proven to be a very consistent scorer as he has averaged 71.9 per cent shooting in his time in the NBA.

Though his scoring averages haven’t been above 6 points in his career he could prove to be a great bench guy in Boston.

His wish will be to have more playing time and be the go to big man off the bench within the Boston Celtics rotation. In doing so, we could see a heavy increase in his scoring outputs this season.
