No. 5: Ryan Purvis

Back in 2007, the Boston College Eagles had a magical season in the ACC. A phenom quarterback by the name of Matt Ryan helped the Eagles to an 11-3 record and a final ranking of number 11 in the coaches poll.

A huge part of Ryan’s success was the play of tight end Ryan Purvis.

Purvis (’05-’08) had a fantastic season in ’07 in which had 54 receptions, 553 yards and four touchdown catches in 14 games. These were numbers that earned Purvis a spot on the all ACC first-team.

Ryan jetted off to the NFL and Boston College focused more on the run in 2008. Assigned more pass protection duties, Purvis saw his numbers drop as a senior. He had 24 receptions for 176 yards and did not find the end zone.

Purvis finished his Boston College career with 113 receptions, 1121 yards, and six touchdowns. The total receptions places Purvis 14th on the all-time list.

A career in the NFL was short-lived. He spent one day with the Philadelphia Eagles before Tampa Bay called with an undrafted free agent offer. Purvis ended up playing ten games in the 2010 season for the Buccaneers, starting two and collecting five catches for 38 yards.

A solid pass catcher and blocker, Purvis will always be an all-time great, thanks in large part to the ’07 season.
