No. 3: Tommy Sweeney

Former Eagle and current member of the Buffalo Bills, Tommy Sweeney was “old reliable” as part of former head coach Steve Addazio’s run-heavy offense.

Predicated on a run game, Sweeney was still able to put together quite the career as he was often the focus of a sometimes erratic passing game.

Sweeney (’15-’18) finished his career with 99 career receptions. He hauled in ten passes for scores and finished with 1,281 yards. His graduate season was capped off with a selection to the all ACC first-team.

His finest season, however, may have come in 2017 as a redshirt junior. Sweeney had 36 receptions for 512 yards and 4 touchdowns. The season’s best game for Sweeney came in the Pinstripe Bowl against the Iowa Hawkeyes, where he had seven receptions for 137 yards and a touchdown.

Sweeney was selected in the seventh-round of the 2019 draft by the Buffalo Bills. He caught eight passes for 114 yards in his rookie campaign. Sweeney, however, will miss the rest of the 2020 season due to COVID-19 related health issues after not playing the first-half due to a foot injury.

One could only imagine if the Boston College Eagles had more of a passing oriented attack during his years on campus. But he was a valuable leader and still had a storied career.
