After a disastrous 2020 season, the Boston Red Sox haven’t done much to inspire confidence that 2021 is going to be any better.

Do you struggle with insomnia? Have you tried countless methods of sleep medication but to no avail? Fear not, because I have your solution: All you have to do is pay attention to Major League Baseball’s offseason. If you want a really strong dose of narcolepsy, make sure you focus on the Red Sox.

In case you missed it, the Sox stood idly by as Corey Kluber inked a one-year, $11 million deal with the New York Yankees. Not sure if anyone was aware of this, but Boston kind of needs pitching and Kluber wasn’t exactly asking anyone to bring out the brinks truck.

It’s one thing if they don’t want to give someone like Trevor Bauer a boatload of money, that is totally understandable.

However, the starting rotation currently consists of Eduardo Rodriguez (recovering from myocarditis,) Chris Sale (recovering from Tommy John surgery,) Nathan Eovaldi (just not very good,) and… yeah, that’s all that’s confirmed as of now. That’s three guys and there’s supposed to be five.

Boston Red Sox rumors shift towards Jake Odorizzi

Hope isn’t completely lost yet as there are still some starters left on the market. As I already mentioned, Trevor Bauer is likely not an option as the Red Sox haven’t been linked to him in any way. However, they have shown interest in right hander Jake Odorizzi.

As everyone’s favorite unbiased national baseball journalist so eloquently pointed out, the Boston Red Sox showing interest in Odorizzi is a nice sign towards progress, but interest needs to turn into an actual signing very soon. If it does not, then 2021 is probably not going to be any better than 2020.

At this point, even the most masochistic Red Sox fan doesn’t want to see a repeat of 2020. No one is asking the team to win 108 games and steamroll their way to another World Series title. Just provide a watchable product.

Bringing Alex Cora back as manager was a step in the right direction, but Cora is not gonna be throwing from a mound anytime soon. The Boston Red Sox have done virtually nothing of importance since Cora was rehired. If they can’t at least try to compete, why should anyone want to sit through their games?

Next. Marcus Semian could be a steal. dark

No one should be calling for Chaim Bloom’s job or anything, but he needs to do something to gain a bit more faith from Red Sox nation.
