Doc Rivers praises Celtics star Jaylen Brown in the best way possible
The Boston Celtics may have run into a problem in Philadelphia with back-to-back losses to the 76ers, but out of the two-game stint emerged a solution in rising star Jaylen Brown.
While his 42-point effort couldn’t propel the Celtics to get a little revenge against the Joel Embiid led Philly squad, his performance in the 122-110 loss Friday night did open the eyes of 76ers head coach Doc Rivers, who is of course very familiar with Celtic green.
Getting it done on both ends of the court, Rivers gave props to the 24-year-old ascending star as “terrific,” but the former Celtics coach didn’t stop there with his praise.
"“I mean, he makes hard shots, too,” Rivers said following the game, via NBC Sports Boston. “Obviously if you give him a 3, he’s a dead-eye, knock-down 3-point shooter. I don’t think he was that when he first came in the league and now he is. But where his biggest improvement, and where he’s really developed, off the dribble he’s really tough. Great in-between game, great all the way to the basket, great 3s. When you have all three of those things you’re one of the better offensive players in the league, and he is.”More from Chowder and Champions3 Patriots on the Bubble Who Have Clinched Their 53-Man Roster Spots3 Midseason Chaim Bloom Decisions That Have Killed the 2023 Red Sox10 Patriots Who Will Be Cut by Tuesday’s Roster DeadlineMLB Screws Red Sox Fans With Broadcast for Mookie Betts Return3 Most Underpaid Celtics Heading Into the 2023 Season"
Wow, coming from a head coach who has coached the likes of Paul Pierce, Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, that is the ultimate compliment and one that Brown should be proud of.
When he entered the league, most Celtics fans were inspired by his extreme athleticism, but what has morphed into the last few seasons is an all-around offensive force who is still growing, which is a showcase of a limitless sky for a player still not on the brink of his prime.
Jaylen Brown proving Celtics right on their patience
And speaking of top-level offensive starts like Leonard and recently James Harden, Boston Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge is looking brilliant for now including Brown or Jayson Tatum in rumored NBA trades in the past.
While Tatum broke out as an All-Star caliber player in 2020, Brown is making the 2021 season his year and his time even with Kemba Walker back in the mix. He is also providing evidence on a nightly basis that the team is better off with him going forward than making a blockbuster trade for Harden.
The only question that remains is how will Brown, Tatum and Walker share the ball when all there are actually healthy and on the court.
Can and will Jaylen Brown continue to be aggressive with his own scoring or will he sit back and let both Tatum and Kemba take the lead down the stretch of games?
If the answer is a more aggressive Brown who continues to have nights like he did Friday night, it will really show that the Celtics young wing has arrived as a star.
Although he will take winning over his own stats, it looks like the respect around the league is finally showing as one of the top coaches in the NBA in Doc Rivers has proclaimed that Jaylen Brown has indeed arrived.
