3. The New England Patriots will trade up and draft one or two head-scratching players high, who are rated much lower by everyone else in football

This is almost a given each and every year for the New England Patriots. It’s called the, “we know better than anyone else in the NFL in expending a much higher pick on this player than you dolts” theory.

That leads them to draft players like Tavon Wilson, a safety whom they took in the second round in 2012 according to Bleacher Report which had this to say back then,

"According to ESPN Insider, Wilson was the 24th-best safety prospect in the draft class. Pro Football Weekly ranked him as the 12th-best free safety prospect."

Wilson is far from the only one of these head-scratchers. Interestingly, he did have a good first season before falling off and then subsequently reviving his career in Detroit.

But second-round picks shouldn’t be fliers on “maybes”, but that’s just what those and other picks have been for New England on multiple occasions. It’s just not a great idea to roll the dice on a second-round pick.
