New England Patriots rumors: 3 pass rush targets with extreme edge
New England Patriots edge rush targets: Trey Hendrickson
One of the top edge free agents set to get paid is defensive end Trey Hendrickson who is coming off a career year for the New Orleans Saints with 13.5 sacks.
Unlike Okwara and Clowney, the New England Patriots would have to shell out some serious dough to outbid for the services of this 6-foot-4, 270-found stud who is just 26 years old, obviously still in flight to reaching his ceiling.
Now, there will be some veteran defensive ends Belichick can get on a bargain, but Hendrickson could be one of those opening day free agent splashes the Patriots make seemingly every couple off-seasons or so.
No one say Stephon Gilmore coming and no one certainly saw Adalius Thomas coming back prior to that 2007 NFL season.
Speaking of Thomas, the Patriots will be smart with how they spend their money. Hendrickson appears to be a player motivated to become the best he can be at the position, even after a big play day.
With the amount of cap space, the Patriots have, there will be no player they can’t afford. But that player will have to be worth it, and a player Belichick sees who can make his team better.
Trey Hendrickson could be that type of player. Not only would he help solve the team’s pass rush deficiencies, adding him to the mix would allow young players like Chase Winovich and Josh Uche have more of an impact rushing the passer.
