Boston Red Sox: 3 players you must drop everything to watch in 2021 -Tanner Houck

There is something very exciting about the idea of a pitching prospect being lights out. Even more so when they have already flashed that dominance on the major league level. Tanner Houck was in the majors for a cup of coffee last season, but that cup was some of the best stuff fans have seen in some time.

In three games, Houck decimated the competition with a sparkling 0.53 ERA to go along with his 3-0 record and 21 strikeouts. But when it comes to the dominance of Houck and the potential, it’s not all about the stats but what you see on the field.

While he can be wild at times, it’s the games that he is on that should excite fans the most. He is only getting better at his young age and is already a major player on Twitter user @PitchingNinja’s account as he makes MLB All-Stars look silly with his slider.

Comparisons to Chris Sale have nearly been instant as his nearly identical delivery makes for good reason, but Houck has a lot to prove before getting anywhere to being Sale. That being said, you can’t help but be excited to watch him pitch.

The movement, “filth” as the kids like to say, on his pitches should have batters buckling all season long while fans are jumping for joy at how good he can be for the Red Sox moving forward. Houck is no guarantee to start the season in the majors having already been sent down to minor league camp, but injuries have led to him possibly getting a chance to shine very soon into the season.

The 24-year-old right-hander is going to be the most exciting pitcher on the Red Sox this season, it’s simply a matter of when his name gets called so that he can show why fans should be watching every single one of his outings.

Houck is one of two young studs to be excited about this season and is the definition of a “must-watch.”
