No. 1: Boston Red Sox starter Nick Pivetta delivers

As bad as Garrett Richards was in his outing against the Baltimore Orioles, Nick Pivetta was as good in his start.

In fact, if you take away the pour outing by Richards, the Boston Red Sox starting rotation hasn’t gotten off to a bad start at all.  Take some of those 11 runs and tally them onto the first two games of the season and both Nathan Eovaldi and Tanner Houck would be celebrating victories also.

But it is what it is and the Red Sox needed a solid outing from their No. 4 starter and they got it.

The 6-foot-5 flamethrower was on his game during his Red Sox debut.  Pitching five scoreless innings, Pivetta gave up just two hits and four strikeouts in the victory.

In all, he credits his focus and poise on the mound for his success in delivering the teams their first victory of the season.

"“You’ve just gotta keep it level the whole entire time,” Pivetta said, via MLB.com.  “You can’t be worried about what happened the day before that or the day before that.  It’s 162 games, right?  You still have 158 to go now.  So it’s just going out there with the same energy, same attitude every single day, keeping a level head and really just going out there and competing.”"

Compete he did and hopefully it rubs off the rest of the series against the Tampa Bay Rays to start.  We will worry about the rest of the season after that.

But, in taking that one game at a time approach, hail to Nick Pivetta for getting the ball rolling.

Well, Red Sox Nation certainly hopes so.
