Round 5 177:  Tre Norwood –  Cornerback,  Oklahoma

The New England Patriots will enter the 2021 NFL season with the secondary being their strength, but beyond next season is filled with question marks and unknowns.

That is why Bill Belichick will select Tre Norwood out of the University of Oklahoma.

player. 815. . Cornerback. Sooners . Tre Norwood. 177

At 5-foot-11, 192 pounds, he does have NFL size and can do the one thing Belichick loves in his secondary players.  He can display versatility with his ability to play both cornerback and safety.

With five interceptions in his last six games, he gives off the ability to be a ball hawk.  But what will intrigue Belichick more is his ability to play up in the box and attack the run.

If available at this spot, a no-brainer for the Patriots given the uncertain future of both Stephon Gilmore and J.C. Jackson.  This is where Belichick must protect the team at the position as the team can deal with losing one of their top 2 corners, but if they somehow lose them both, suddenly the team will see their strength turn into their weakness.

In all, Tre Norwood is not the sole answer, but at least the team will add a young, versatile cornerback who could certainly be coached up and put in positions where he could succeed in the NFL.
