Boston Celtics weekly player spotlight

Jayson Tatum had another fantastic week but it was a teammate who was missing in action on Saturday who had just completed a game of a lifetime.

Jaylen Brown was at his finest in Thursday’s victory over the Lakers. Brown had everything going in the game, dropping a cool 40 on a 17-20 performance from the field. To shoot 85 percent is one thing, but to do it as a guard, well, that deserves extra kudos.

Brown missed the Warriors game due to a non-COVID illness and finished the week averaging 28 points and 7 rebounds in three games.

Another starter who seems to be one step closer to being fully healthy is Kemba Walker. Walker, with Brown out on Saturday, stepped up his game on offense. He scored 26 points and his three-point shooting early in the third quarter was a huge part of Boston’s comeback.

Walker averaged 18.3 points per game this last week. There is still some struggles with his shot selection but he’s getting to the rim more. Walker dished out 23 assists the last four games and twice collected eight rebounds.

More importantly, and proof he’s getting healthier, is that Walker is back to consistently taking charges and putting his body on the floor for loose balls.

Payton Pritchard, with more minutes the last two games, responded with a total of 26 points, knocking down six threes. Getting Pritchard back to playing like he was in December and January is a must for this team to succeed.

It should also be noted Jabari Parker made his Celtics debut against the Warriors, scoring 11 points on 5-6 shooting. To see him make an impact in his first game is a positive sign as Boston looks to shore up its bench.
