Boston Celtics: Weekly player spotlight

There was a lot of balance among the Celtics in last week’s games, but Kemba Walker stood out above the rest.

Walker missed the Portland game but finished strong with a combined 65 points and 12 made threes in the week’s final two games.

Walker has had more bounce as of late. A ten-day layoff certainly helped as Walker dealt with a left oblique strain. His scoring is a plus and his attitude while on the court seems to keep the Celtics loose. In fact, in the last 12 games in which Walker has played, Boston is 9-3.

The veteran guard is averaging 28.4 points in his last five games and connecting a shade over 50 percent from the field (58-94).

Another player settling into a nice rhythm is Evan Fournier. Earning starts due to the various injuries of others, Fournier responded by averaging just under 19 points per game. Still battling the effects of COVID-19, Fournier shot a collective 23-35 from the field last week and was 10-16 from three-point range.

Fournier will be an important part of the Celtics playoff puzzle, as will Walker, so it’s nice to see these two playing well. As long as everyone is playing at their top level, this Boston team will be fine, no matter where they land in the playoffs. Let’s just hope they have enough health to reach that level.
