Boston Bruins: 3 takeaways from wild Game 2 win over Washington: A tale of two games for Brad Marchand

Game One wasn’t a great game for Brad Marchand and Game Two looked like it would be more of the same. Thankfully the winger was able to turn things around and win the game for the Bruins.

So let’s get the bad out of the way. Marchand and the Bruins as a whole were in the box way too much. Specifically, Marchand was goated into penalties that he shouldn’t take.

Marchand needs to be smarter. When he is in the penalty box, the Capitals can take advantage and it’s tough for Boston to score.

But then things changed. Marchand started playing his game and didn’t let Washington use his peskiness against him. Marchand would score the game-winning goal in overtime to tie the series at 1-1.

After the game, Marchand said that Patrice Bergeron told him to calm down and brought the winger back down to Earth. One would hope that Marchand could do this on his own, but it shows how great of a captain Bergeron is.

So now the series is all tied up for the Bruins and when Game Three arrives on Wednesday, Boston will have a great opportunity to take control of momentum in front of their home fans.
