No. 3: The Boston Bruins Perfection Line was perfect

The Bruins first line of Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand, and David Pastrnak, infamously dubbed “The Perfection Line” was simply that this series; perfect. They combined for 13 points over the five games, as Washington just had no answers for them. When these guys are contributing to the teams’ goals, this team is very tough to beat.

The further this series went, the more dominant this line became. They started off slowly, with only Pastrnak notching an assist in Game 1, but by the end they scored all three goals Boston had in Game 5. Marchand also had the game winner in Game 2 and a game tying goal in Game 3 that sent the game to overtime.

Marchand was the key to getting this line going, as his clutch goals helped Bergeron and Pastrnak ease into the series. Bergeron would end up finishing the series with three goals, tied for the team lead with Marchand. Bergeron was at his dominant best in Game 5, as his two goal contribution basically won the game for Boston, and his second goal of the game may have ended up saving the Bruins.

Up until this point, the Capitals had dominated the period, and seemed to be on the verge of tying the game up. But Bergeron swooped in and saved the day, picking up a sloppy pass in the Caps zone, and then getting a fantastic look at the net which he burried in the top left corner of the net. This is a heads up play that not too many other players in the league can make, but Bergeron makes it look absolutely effortless here.

Speaking of effortless, how about this filthy goal from Pastrnak. Pasta got off to a really slow start in the series, and spent most of Game 4 finding new ways to miss fantastic opportunities, before finally burying a goal off of a power play to open up the third period. That seemed to finally give him the confidence to pull off a play like this, which is a great sign for the Bruins heading into the second round of the playoffs.

To sum it up, if the Perfection Line can continue their solid play from the first round into the second round, the Bruins will have a good shot at winning the series, no matter who their opponent is.
