7 Boston Bruins who won’t return next season – Tuukka Rask

This is the one that will hurt the most (maybe not for Rask haters) but it’s time for the Bruins to move on from Tuukka Rask.

Rask has been great for the Bruins. He will go down as one of the best goalies in the history of the franchise.

There are a boatload of factors in the decision to not bring back Rask. Let’s just start with his age. At 34-years-old he is nearing the end of his career. Rask has hinted at retirement before so it wouldn’t be surprising if he steps away from the game.

Also, we found out after the postseason that Rask was playing with a torn labrum. It requires offseason surgery and Rask will miss at least half of the regular season.

Then there’s the fact that the Bruins have Jeremy Swayman. Sway seems to be the heir apparent to Rask and looks to be the goaltender of the future. With Rask out due to injury, it seems he will get the majority of starts next season.

If you brought back Rask you would be signing him to be a backup. With how much it will cost that just doesn’t seem worth it.

So with all of these players gone, Boston will have a lot of money to spend and the Bruins roster will look a lot different come opening night next season.
