Boston Red Sox starting pitcher MLB Trade Deadline targets: Michael Pineda

As a solid starter on a struggling Minnesota Twins teams, why not kick the tires on 32-year-old pitcher Michael Pineda?

So far this season, the right-handed pitcher has posted a 4-5 record with a 3.93 ERA in 13 games started with the Twins.  Certainly, Pineda has been Minnesota’s best pitcher in 2021, but could he continue his success on a Boston Red Sox team striving for post-season success?

It is more of a matter Pineda staying off the suspension list. The veteran pitcher was suspended in 2019 for PED’s and had a pine-tar incident early in his career that led him to be thrown out of a game against the Red Sox, ironically.  But if any manager or team know about reputations of cheating it is Alex Cora.

All of that aside, as a middle of the rotation guy, Pineda has been solid throughout his career, so he is worth exploring as another arm.  He does come with some elbow issues that may concern any team.  He also comes with a $10 million contract which is equal to the man in the lineup he could potentially replace in Garrett Richards.
