Boston Red Sox starting pitcher MLB Trade Deadline targets: Madison Bumgarner

This is not the 2019 version of Madison Bumgarner, but given his World Series experience and success, he could be a valuable addition for the Boston Red Sox.

Not that the team doesn’t have its share of World Series experience but adding another veteran to the mix like Bumgarner can certainly make the rotation entering the playoffs a very solid one.

Though Bumgarner’s contract is exactly what Chaim Bloom wants to stay away from as he would be acquiring $60 million total between 2022-24, Bumgarner could re-invent himself on a winning team like the Red Sox.

His 4-6 record and 5.09 ERA is certainly not the pitcher he was in 2019, but that really is only a season removed so a change in scenery could just be what the doctor ordered for a pitcher who has become known for his post-season success.

But, as great as the name would sound in a Boston Red Sox starting rotation, the money is a major factor and why Bloom would shy away.  In the past, the contract wouldn’t be an issue if the team believed he could take them over the top.

Perhaps, that would and could still be the case if there is any glimpse of the old Madison Bumgarner in there.
