Boston Red Sox Trade Target No. 1: Jonathan Schoop

Of all the potential trade targets Boston has been linked to, Jonathan Schoop may just be the best fit available. Schoop has turned things around after a couple of lackluster seasons, and has been a bright spot on a pretty bad Tigers team. As a result, he could be the best trade bait Detroit has to their name.

Schoop seemed set for stardom after 2017 when he smacked 32 home runs and drove in 105 runs, earning him his first All-Star berth. But things never really lined up for him over the next few seasons, as he struggled to consistently find his way on base. That has changed this season.

Schoop appears to be in the process of putting together the second best season of his career. He’s hitting .288 while also hitting 17 home runs and driving in 60 RBI’s. It’s quite the turnaround considering he was hitting just .233 three seasons ago.

Not only is Schoop hitting better, but he can come in and help the infield out as well. Schoop has primarily found himself at first base this season, but has seen time at every position in the infield throughout his career. Having another versatile piece in the infield will allow coach Alex Cora to pick his matchups each game.

Schoop will probably be one of the most sought after players on the trade market despite the fact he’s set to be a free agent after this season. He has shown the ability to hit for power and contact this season, while also having the ability to play multiple positions on the field. Boston needs help at first base, and they would get more than they bargained for if they acquired Schoop from Detroit.
