Red Sox big splash MLB Trade Deadline targets: Kris Bryant

If not Anthony Rizzo (as highlighted in 4 first baseman Red Sox should target at MLB Trade Deadline), then perhaps Kris Bryant?

Boston Red Sox legend David Ortiz wants to make this happen if Bryant has any interest in joining the Sox.

During an interview with Bryant during Fox’s live pregame coverage ahead of the 2021 All-Star Game, Big Papi made this pitch to the 29-year-old third baseman.

"“I hear that you might be getting traded.  You want to come to Boston?  I can make it happen, bro,” Ortiz joked."

Bryant dodged the question, but as a player set to be a free agent following the season, it may be in his best interest to play for a contender for the remainder of the season and reset his value.

Not that his value wouldn’t already be high.  In 320 at bats, the man has a .269 batting average with 17 homers and 50 RBI.  His ability to play first base and the outfield would be a value for the Boston Red Sox.

Obviously, Rafael Devers has third base locked down, so in obtaining Bryant, the Red Sox would obviously shift him to first base, which would certainly take care of that need.

Like Rizzo, it’s going to come down to what the Boston Red Sox are willing to give up in plucking Bryant away from the Chicago Cubs.  If the team is interested in making him more than just a rental, sending away Bobby Dalbec in a package would have to be considered.
