Red Sox rumors: 3 big splash sluggers to acquire at MLB Trade Deadline
Red Sox big splash MLB Trade Deadline targets: Joey Gallo
Texas Rangers slugger Joey Gallo was left off the list for top first baseman to target at the MLB Trade Deadline, but as a power hitting outfielder with first base and third base experience, he tops this list of big splash sluggers.
Add to the fact that he is a left-handed bat, this All-Star outfielder would absolutely be worth the price Red Sox chief officer Chaim Bloom would have to sacrifice to obtain him.
As long as that price doesn’t include top prospect Jarren Duran, the added power Gallo would bring to the lineup would make the Red Sox obviously that much more dangerous offensively. His batting average is low at .222, but his 24 homers and 52 RBI makes him a consistent power threat in the middle of the Red Sox lineup to go along with Xander Bogaerts, Rafael Devers and J.D. Martinez.
Now, the downside of acquiring Gallo is that he would take playing time away from Duran but adding him would create even more flexibility in the lineup and on the field for Alex Cora. He could use the slugger at first or third on any given day and slot him in at DH.
An added delight in making this sort of splash is keeping Gallo away from the New York Yankees, a team rumored to be in heavy on the Rangers All-Star.
In all, Gallo would be the biggest splash as far as power hitters go, but the Boston Red Sox may see the players named previously as bitter fits. Kris Bryant at least has the World Series experience Joey Gallo doesn’t have.
