New England Patriots Offensive Player No. 1: Cam Newton

Again, there are lots of players who could have manned any of these spots, but the top one I’m looking forward to seeing play is The Man, Cam Newton.

It’s no secret that Cam Newton is highly regarded in this space not only for what he is capable of doing on the football field, but also for who he is and how he persevered last season.

That was a season in which he confronted monumental obstacles both on the field and with a serious health issue to deal with off the field

Yes, this space is a big fan. Why not? And the hope here is that he will finally have a solid opportunity to perform as he can. It looks like he will.

First, he appears to be healthy, maybe finally free of the shoulder and other injury issues that have troubled him for some time.

He hopefully now has also fully recovered from contracting COVID-19 early last season. This had to hinder his stamina and hamper his ability to do all the things that he can do on a football field, though he never said anything about it.

Also, he now has a full offseason and three pre-season games to get comfortable with his new offensive teammates and the Patriots’ complex offensive system.

Additionally, he has several new offensive weapons, players who can perform at a high level (to a Patriots level) and take the burden off the quarterback to do it all.

He’ll team up with two top tight ends, Hunter Henry and Jonnu Smith. He’ll throw to solid wide receivers like Nelson Agholor and Kendrick Bourne to support Jakobi Meyers.

And he’ll have a stable of good running backs. In addition, he’ll have a top young arm, Mac Jones who is slated for greatness competing for playing time behind him.

Jones will be ready to ready to step in and perform if Cam can’t. Competition drives real competitors to excel.

Cam Newton is an uber-competitor, a former NFL MVP, and he’s just aching for a return to the prominence he once enjoyed before injuries derailed his career. He does not lack confidence.

All of these situations lead to my looking forward greatly to seeing Cam Newton play this season and to seeing him silence his critics. The thought here is that he will play, and he’ll play very well.

Expect him to lead the New England Patriots back where they belong, which is the playoffs, and possibly more. So those are the top three players I’m looking forward to seeing right now.

There really are many others too, some of whom were noted above. But those are the three at the top of my list. Who are you really anxious to see play? We’d like to hear your views.
