The Take on New England Patriots Mac Jones

Regarding Mac Jones, the single outstanding element that stood out was his seamlessly fitting into the Patriots’ offense.

Hard to explain, but things seemed to slow down with Mac at the helm. Perhaps that was because the Washington first-teamers played little against the rookie.

In any event, Jones was a clinical13 of 19 for 87 yards. That’s a 68 percent completion rate, though most were of the dink-and-dunk short pass variety.  Still, 68 percent is 68 percent.

Wait until Jones gets acclimated to the NFL game. Could his completion numbers be similar to last season at Alabama? If so, his numbers could be astronomical. He completed 77.4 percent of his passes for The Crimson Tide last season on his way to winning the FBS Championship.

Jones seems to take what the defense gives him. Sound familiar? We heard that a lot with a certain No. 12 here for 20 years. Not to say that he’s in that league. Hardly.

Yet, one never knows what he might become. The prediction here is that he will be an NFL star and win lots of games.

There will be serious buyers’ remorse, indeed, for the bunch of teams that let Jones slide to the Patriots at No. 15 in this year’s draft. If he stays healthy, count on that.

Jones also had a perfectly thrown long, “should-have-been-caught-for-a-touchdown” pass dropped in the endzone by wide receiver, Kristian Wilkerson.

That was a shame. Wilkerson did catch a team-high six passes for 39 yards though, leading the team in an otherwise lackluster showing by the wide receivers.

After one game, it looks like there may indeed be some competition for the top spot on offense, but Cam is still in the lead. We’ll see what ensues.
