The Take on the New England Patriots offensive line

The starting line didn’t play very much. One notable was that both starting center David Andrews and backup center/guard Ted Karras didn’t play due to injury.

This is a troubling sign. Thankfully, New England can count on an old standby James Ferentz to backup almost everywhere. Good thing, but the depth there has to be questioned.

In addition to guard and center depth being thin, offensive tackle is another area that needed (and still needs) to be shored up in the off-season and wasn’t.

Observations include that former third-round draft pick, Yodny Cajuste, who hadn’t played in two years after being drafted in 2019, looked pretty weak at right tackle.

His chances of making the club seem slim, although the competition with the likes of Korey Cunningham and Justin Herron is not exactly formidable. Herron is the best of the bunch.

Also, another notable was that starting left tackle, Isaiah Wynn got torched by Washington’s second-year defensive end, Chase Young.

That was no disgrace for Wynn since Young is a superstar in the making. Yet, as the New England Patriots offensive left tackle, he’s expected to prevent that sort of thing.

It still says here that spot should go to aircraft carrier, Trent Brown, who is now at right tackle. We’ll see.

One note: another point-scorer who is not really on offense but special teams was Quinn Nordin, an undrafted free agent kicker from Michigan.

The rookie kicker blasted three field goals of 35, 40, and 50 yards on three tries. It was a nice showing whose only blemish was a missed point after.

So, those are some quick takes on the Patriots’ offense against Washington on Thursday night. What are your takes on the offense’s performance? We’d like to hear them.
