4th Down: Mac Jones will lead the New England Patriots to the playoffs

Everyone raved about Jones and his play during the preseason. But no one mentions that he would had thrown two interceptions if the defenders caught the ball.

Jones is a rookie. There will be times where he will look like one too. Whether it’s a bad throw or holding on to the ball for too long instead of throwing it away, Jones is going to make some rookie mistakes.

That’s why Belichick is dusting off his 2001 game plan. It worked perfectly for Brady, who was in his second year at the time. It should suit Jones just as well as the coaching staff lets Jones go through his growing pains.

Is Jones Brady-like? Let’s not go there right now. But under his leadership, Jones will get the Patriots farther than Newton did last year. But he will come up short of what Brady did as a first time starter.
