New England Patriots: 3 stars from blowout victory over the Jets
It wasn’t the prettiest game of football, but the New England Patriots picked up their first win of the season this past weekend against the New York Jets. Much was made of the matchup between Mac Jones and Zach Wilson, two of the five quarterbacks drafted in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, but it ultimately ended up being a dull affair aside from Wilson throwing four interceptions.
Nonetheless, a win is a win, and it was clear the Patriots spent a lot of time cleaning up their mistakes from their Week 1 loss against the Miami Dolphins. They did a much better job protecting the football in this one, and did a good job at limiting their mental mistakes, such as the costly penalties we saw in the opener. It was a marked improvement from their sloppy showing in the season opener, and should give Patriots fans the confidence to believe this team is going in the right direction.
They also still have a lot to work on still. Considering how badly the Jets played, the Pats probably should have beaten them by 30 points instead of 20. They failed to convert some opportunities against a lowly Jets team, and while they got away with it this time around, the same probably won’t happen against some of their better opponents later on down the road.
The Patriots rode Wilson’s four pick game to a victory, but they also got some star performances from their own players along the way, which is a great sign moving forward. Here are three players that starred in the New England Patriots thrashing of the New York Jets in Week 2.
