Boston College Eagles: Offense makes beautiful music in win
A rock ‘n’ roll effort from the Boston College Eagles on offense made for a beautiful result on Saturday.
The running game ate up yards by the spoonful. The receivers consistently found open holes in the secondary. And quarterback Phil Jurkovec showed why he’s one of the best quarterbacks in the ACC.
Jurkovec accounted for all five of Boston College’s touchdowns as the Eagles (6-4, 2-4) outlasted the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 41-30.
The victory earned Boston College a sixth-straight season of being bowl eligible, largely thanks to Jurkovec and an offense that was in rhythm all game.
Boston College Eagles and the Jurkovec effect
Eased into things during last week’s victory against Virginia Tech, Jurkovec opened things up right off the bat on Saturday.
On the very first series, Jurkovec found a wide-open Zay Flowers for a 48-yard score. This play was simply a preview of things to come in the game for Boston College.
Jurkovec finished 13-20 for 310 yards and two touchdown passes. Though not called upon to pass a lot, Jurkovec made the most of his opportunities, averaging over 15 yards per attempt. It was refreshing to see these long passes work, a dynamic that had been missing during Jurkovec’s absence.
He also got it done with his feet, rushing for 71 yards (on eight carries) and scoring three times.
This was part of yet another balanced attack from the Eagles. Pat Garwo III continued to do the heavy lifting, carrying the ball 24 times for 104 yards. He is now up to 909 on the season and has been a breath of fresh air for a running game that struggled mightily in 2020.
Success on the ground opened things up in the passing game, where Jurkovec was able to utilize all his weapons .
