Boston College Eagles: Offense makes beautiful music in win
Boston College Eagles: 2nd-half ‘D’ tightens
In allowing 14 first-half point to the Georgia Tech (3-7, 2-6) offense — plus another seven by the special teams on a kickoff return — it looked like Boston College was in trouble on defense. Attrition due to injuries looked like it had finally caught up to Boston College as they were getting gashed by the run.
It’s been a problem all season but Boston College’s defense has usually been able to buckle down. And they did exactly that in the second-half, allowing only a touchdown and a field goal.
They also found a way to continue to force turnovers, with an interception by Jaiden Woodbey and a forced fumble by Marcus Valdez. The Eagles also finished the game with three sacks, amping up the pressure in the second-half.
Josh DeBerry continues to pick up the slack in the secondary. Missing starters left and right, DeBerry has been a tackling machine as of late. He added 10 more today, including two tackles-for-loss.
Woodbey added seven tackles.
Down 21-7 early, it could have been easy to pack it in for the defense and hope the offense kept things interesting. Instead, all stepped up and helped deliver this road-victory. It’s a show by Jurkovec that makes think about what might have been had he been health all season. He’s here, now, and it’s best to enjoy this team as they look to finish the season strong.
