Boston College Eagles: Productivity at tight end

Entering the season, there was a void to be filled at the tight end position. Hunter Long was off to the NFL and a trio of players were in contention to replace his production.

All three saw action but it was transfer Trae Barry who stood out above the rest.

Barry ran into some injuries the latter part of the season but still played in ten games. He proved to be a reliable blocker and pass-catcher, finishing third on the team with 21 receptions.

He had at least one reception in eight games, including a season-best seven (for 82 yards) in an excruciating loss to Clemson.

Barry finished 362 receiving yards and caught four touchdown passes.

A nice compliment to Barry was Joey Luchetti, who caught 13 passes for 157 yards. While he, Barry, and Spencer Witter didn’t quite combine to live up to Long’s legacy, the three were more-than-adequate in helping the Eagles.

Barry, DeBerry, and Garwo stood out in the 2021 season but there were bright spots across the board. Brandon Sebastian had another solid season and freshman receiver Jaden Williams is ready for his close-up in 2022. If Flowers and Jurkovec, both considered early-round picks in the 2022 NFL draft, decide to run it back one more season at Boston College, the 2022 season could bear the results many hoped for this season.

And if not? Well, there’s plenty of skilled players ready to rise up and keep Boston College building towards a successful on-the-field future.
