The New England Patriots started 2022 off right with a 50-10 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in the final regular season game at Gillette Stadium on Sunday.

In a get right game, the Patriots got off fast on both defense and offense in literally rushing out to a 28-3 half-time lead led by Damien Harris and his two rushing touchdowns and Mac Jones doing Mac Jones things by starting off hot passing the football with touchdown passes to Jakobi Meyers and his new favorite target Kristian Wilkerson.

Mac Jones breaks New England Patriots rookie record

In all, Jones finished the game with 227 yards passing and three touchdown passes which broke Jim Plunkett’s rookie record of 19.  A recorded that was set back in 1971.  More importantly, the rookie quarterback will be leading his team to the NFL playoffs as the Patriots needed a win and a Miami Dolphins or Las Vegas Raiders loss to clinch.  They got that with a Dolphins loss to the Tennessee Titans.

Does it feel good Mac Jones?

Following the 50-10 shellacking, the Patriots rookie was asked how exciting it felt to know his team secured a playoff spot.

"“Yeah, I think any sport you play you want to get a chance to play for a championship and for a playoff spot,” Jones said, via Patriots.com. “We have a big game next week, and that’s what we’re going to focus on, and finishing strong and all that. We’ll focus on that and be where our feet are, and then when the next thing comes we’ll have a new plan and attack it.”"

While Jones, Harris, Wilkerson, Meyers and Rhamondre Stevenson led the show offensively, the New England Patriots did their thing defensively as well.  With a couple of sacks and interceptions by Myles Bryant, J.C. Jackson and Kyle Duggar off Jaguars rookie Trevor Lawrence, Bill Belichick’s defense can feel a little better for themselves as they now prepare for the playoffs.
