Why the Boston Celtics should not trade Jaylen Brown for Domantas Sabonis

The Indiana Pacers, like the Boston Celtics, are a team that has been underachieving in the 2021-22 NBA season and are a team that is heavy on the rumor mill when it comes to key players like All-Star big man Domantas Sabonis, Myles Turner and Caris LeVert.

Moving towards a rebuild, the Pacers would be looking for younger players to build their team around as well as draft picks.  As Sabonis would be a nice addition for the Celtics, the price will probably center around a deal for Brown.

If somehow Stevens can pull a deal without involving the All-Star wing, I’m all for it, but if it takes Brown to bring Sabonis to Boston, this Celtics fan would have to jump off that bandwagon.

As a double-double machine, Sabonis would give the Celtics that big man they have been searching for.  He is not as athletic as Robert Williams, but he can score around the rim and obviously one of the better big men in the league.

In thinking about Sabonis in green, he would bring energy to the team and offer a different style with his presence down low.  Offensively not a huge drop although they would lose a little bit of punch as Brown is a more diverse scorer.  Defensively is where the biggest decline would come, but in a three-man rotation with Al Horford and Williams, that defensive liability could be overshadowed.

The big question though is whether Stevens feels an addition of Sabonis will make the team overall better than a team lead by the duo of Tatum and Brown.  In my opinion, the answer is no mostly because adding Sabonis to that tandem would really make this Celtics team rock.

In all, Stevens and the Celtics should never make this deal unless they can sway the Pacers to a deal that does not involve Jaylen Brown.
