New England Patriots rumors: 3 Buccaneers to target in 2022 free agency
Why the New England Patriots should target wide receiver Chris Godwin
Can Bill Belichick shock another offseason and land talented wide receiver Chris Godwin?
If he does, it would be the ultimate surprise in free agency since the New England Patriots don’t typically splurge on wide receivers in free agency. But, if they were able to swoon Godwin into signing with the Patriots, they not only will give Mac Jones that big time outside threat, they also will add a receiver who knows the offense after spending two seasons catching the ball from Tom Brady.
Where will the money come from is the big question?
The Patriots could free up some space by moving on from Nelson Agholor, who didn’t live up to the year he had with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2020. If they figure out that situation, targeting Godwin would be the ultimate prize for Belichick.
Talk about a true go-to option, this 25-year-old stud had 98 catches for 1,103 yards and 5 touchdowns in 2021 coming off a torn ACL. He should be even better in 2022 and more dangerous on a team where he would be clearly the No. 1 option.
Just think about how much better that would make Kendrick Bourne, Jakobi Meyers and the tight end duo of Henry Henry and Jonnu Smith with a talent like Godwin taking up much of the attention. A player of that caliber would also make Mac Jones just that much better in his second season.
While there will be other options out there like Odell Beckham Jr. and Devante Adams, as well as some cheaper options, the perfect fit and target is Chris Godwin. It’s just up to Belichick as to whether he wants to shock the NFL world again by spending some dough.
