Why the New England Patriots should sign defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi

This top spot was reserved for Cincinnati Bengals safety Jessie Bates III, but with the team set to use the franchise tag on the rising star, we will turn our attention to the defensive line where defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi is set to hit free agency.

The New England Patriots have Christian Barmore, Lawrence Guy and Davon Godchaux returning, but if they want to beef up that defensive line and create more pressure up the middle, Bill Belichick should absolutely kick the tires on Ogunjobi who is coming off a stellar season.

Not only did the 27-year-old defensive tackle help his squad get to the playoffs, but he was also a monumental piece of that Bengals’ defense.  With 49 combined tackles and 7.0 sacks in 2021.

Ogunjobi did suffered a foot injury in the team’s first round matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders that required surgery.  That injury could stunt a bigger contract for Ogunjobi following a breakout team.  That could be the factor that keeps him in Cincinnati or a team like the Patriots could swoop in and take a change on the 6-foot-3, 304-pound beast in the middle.

While it would seem like an expensive risk given the recovery of the foot, it could pay off big time for the Patriots if they pair Ogunjobi with Barmore in the middle of that defensive line.  Talk about strength and attitude, the Patriots would certainly lead the NFL with that with those two studs wreaking havoc on offensive lines.
