As the Boston Celtics have risen near the top of the NBA, the face of their organization has morphed himself into the next face of the NBA.

In averaging 33.6 points per game, Jayson Tatum has etched his name in the NBA MVP race as his leadership on the court has led a Celtics turn-a-round that no one seen coming except for the team themselves.  The scary part about what Tatum is doing is that he is just on the brink of his prime and has so much more growing to do.

That is the glorious side of what happens when a young, talent prospect enters a league of superstars.  No matter how much early success they have, they must go through a period of maturation which involves a physical and mental growth that can either propel that talent or roadblock that success.

Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum has morphed into an NBA grown man

Tatum, a two-time All-Star, has taken the road that will branch him out as one of the next faces of the NBA.  In a way, we should’ve seen it coming when he dunked over LeBron James in Game 7 of the 2018 Eastern Conference Finals.

Just a rookie, Tatum screamed to the world that he was coming.  Now, through his inspired play that has his team a half game from the No. 1 seed, he is shouting to the world that he is here.  Fans love it, his teammates love it and NBA stars like Bradley Beal love it.

During an appearance on The Draymond Green Show podcast, Beal not only labeled his childhood friend as the “next face of the league,” he told the Boston Celtics star not to shy away from the moment.

"“He has a great support system,” Beal said, as transcribed by NBC Sports Boston.  “He’s got a lot of people who push him around and uplift him – his mom being No. 1.  But I always tell him, you are the face of this league.  You have that opportunity to be the face of the league.  Don’t shy away from any endorsement, don’t shy away from any money thrown your way.  Whatever the league wants do to, do it.  This is your league, bro.  You’ve already playing at an elite level.  You need to get your name in MVP talks every year because you have that ability.”"

Tatum will always have to battle young stars like Luka Doncic and Ja Morant for the NBA spotlight when it comes to the future of the NBA, but he has something over both of those players.  He has led the deep in the playoffs a few times during his young NBA career.  Though a couple of those seasons has been dubbed as under achievements, the playoff success and experience he already has sketched on his resume supports Beal’s claim.

But what would further cement him as the next great thing is him leading the Boston Celtics to an NBA Finals and a championship.  Once he does that there will be no debate, except for perhaps Boston sports hater Nick Wright who lives to take away any shine a Boston sports athlete may have.
